Wisconsin’s Best Beer Guide

The Wisconsin Beer Guide Returns and The Pils-Grimage Continues

by Kevin Revolinski

It has been 4 years since I wrote The Wisconsin Beer Guide: A Travel Companion. A lot has changed since 2006. Many new microbreweries and brewpubs have appeared and, unfortunately, a few old ones have fallen off the beer map. So it was high time I did an update for Wisconsin beer fans and road trippers.

I’ve changed publishers (Thunder Bay Press) and thus the little tweak of the title to Wisconsin’s Best Beer Guide. All the listings are up-to-date and I’ve added a bit more information on beer-related attractions: museums, a few more places within Stumbling Distance of the listed Wisconsin breweries, and better maps. The FREE BEER is still there thanks to the generosity and good cheer of the various Wisconsin brewers who chose to participate this round. So when you get your book, get it signed at the brewpub or brewery and take advantage of the brewer’s listed Special Offer.

The book is available in most bookstores already and available through the link here on Amazon.com. Please click through this page to order your copy (that way the author gets a little extra change that Amazon otherwise nabs :)

Inside Wisconsin's Best Beer Guide you will find:

  • Listings for all breweries and brewpubs from the big time MillerCoors in Milwaukee all the way down to the little Pioneer Haus inside the student center at University of Wisconsin-Platteville.
  • Beer listings include directions, beer info, the story of the place, food options, and a special offer as well as Stumbling Distance: 2 or 3 places nearby that you shouldn’t miss if you’ve made the trip
  • Listings for festivals, homebrew clubs, homebrew shops
  • Several museums and historic tours
  • Breweries reachable by bike trail or brew cruise
  • A history of beer in Wisconsin
  • Lots of little facts and explanations about beer, how it’s made, and even how to drink it (as if you didn’t know already)

This is a beer lover’s travel guide for the state of Wisconsin. Wisconsin’s statehood was official in 1848. The region’s first commercial brewery, however, was founded in 1835. The Cheese State has also long been the Beer State, and the increased number of microbreweries since the mid-1990s has created a veritable paradise for beer enthusiasts.

Travel writer Kevin Revolinski provides an up-to-date road-trip guide to 74 breweries throughout the state of Wisconsin, from the tiny 16-barrel-per-year brewpub at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville all the way up to Milwaukee’s mega-brewer Miller. Whether you are looking for a handcrafted pilsner or a bourbon-barrel-aged stout, this guide will help you plan your next pils-grimage. Along with directions and other useful travel information about each brewpub or brewery, the book provides “Stumbling Distance,” two or three nearby attractions, eateries (fish fries! fresh cheese curds!) or events that the traveler should not miss.

Also included are light-hearted chapters on Wisconsin’s beer heritage, the process of brewing beer, state beer festivals, and much more, along with many photographs. Passport-style signature pages allow travelers to keep track of where they’ve been and when, and include a promotional element for nearly all the breweries—offers for over $130 worth of free beer and other promotional items!
