When the ice finally melts in Wisconsin each year, we are fortunate to receive an incredible blanket of colorful wildflowers. The springtime pasque flowers don't even wait for the complete thaw and can sometimes be found poking up among snow patches. Wildflowers come in a variety of colors, sizes and seasons. When I was writing 60 Hikes Within 60 Miles of Madison , I became fascinated by the variety and took my camera along to snap shots of them in hopes of identifying them when I returned home. These wildflower photos are the result.I am doing my best to post as many of the flowers as I can identify. If among these pages you find an error or something missing, please let me know. My email is kevin (at) revtravel (dot) com. If you want to contribute a photo, let me know as well. Many of the wildflowers of Wisconsin were tilled under during the big farming years and the restorations of many prairies offer great examples of what this land must have looked like years ago. I hope to create a list of good places and times to see these. Again, contributions and suggestions are welcome. Hope to hear from you, and see you on the trail! |
